Hamza Igamane Looking to Leave Rangers Despite Champions League Push, Says Derek Ferguson
Hamza Igamane is keen to leave Rangers this summer—even if the club secures a spot in the Champions League group stage—according to former midfielder Derek Ferguson, speaking to Ibrox News.
Rangers have had a hectic transfer window under new manager Russell Martin, bringing in nine new signings so far. The team recently progressed past Panathinaikos in the first Champions League qualifying round and now face Viktoria Plzen in the next stage, with the first leg scheduled for Tuesday evening.
However, even qualification for Europe’s top competition may not be enough to convince Igamane to stay at Ibrox beyond the end of the window.
Igamane Expected to Exit Rangers
Igamane has attracted interest from clubs including French side Lille and Dutch champions Feyenoord. The Moroccan striker, who joined Rangers from Morocco last summer for £2.5 million, had an outstanding debut season, scoring 16 goals across all competitions and earning praise for his performances.
Lille are reported to have already agreed personal terms with the forward, while Feyenoord are reportedly willing to break their transfer record to secure his signature. However, neither club has yet met Rangers’ valuation.
Supporters had hoped that Champions League qualification might persuade the 21-year-old to remain at the club for another season, but Ferguson believes that’s unlikely.
“I’m not so sure Champions League qualification makes much difference in this situation,” Ferguson said. “Rangers will just be waiting on the right offers.”
He continued:
“Igamane—it’s a strange one. He hasn’t featured recently, which suggests there’s serious interest from other clubs. It’s just a question of whether they meet the asking price.
“The new board has to be firm. Too many players have been sold for less than their value. They need to maximise what they can get for Igamane.
“I get the sense he wants to leave Scotland.”
Rangers Planning for Life Without Igamane?
Manager Russell Martin has been proactive in strengthening the attack, adding Djeidi Gassama, Theo Aasgaard, Mikey Moore, and Oliver Antman to the squad. Existing strikers Cyriel Dessers and Danilo remain in the mix as well.
Nevertheless, should Rangers fail to secure a significant eight-figure fee for Igamane, his departure would be viewed as a major setback—especially in a season where the club aims to challenge Celtic for the Premiership title and make an impact in Europe.
