After three standout seasons with Ipswich Town, left-back Leif Davis has attracted significant interest from Premier League clubs.
Davis played a pivotal role in Ipswich’s 2023/24 Championship promotion campaign, registering an impressive 18 assists—the highest in the league.
While his output dipped in the Premier League with just two assists during a tough 2024/25 season that ended in relegation, his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, several top-flight clubs are now monitoring the 25-year-old.
Don Goodman Urges Ipswich to Keep Davis
Speaking to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes Ipswich should do everything possible to keep Davis as they aim for an immediate return to the Premier League.
“Leif Davis has been fantastic throughout Ipswich’s rise,” said Goodman. “He recorded 14 assists in League One and followed that up with 18 in the Championship.
Even though he only managed two in the Premier League, like many of his teammates, he struggled in a tough season.”
Goodman was quick to point out that Davis’ dip in output shouldn’t be viewed as a sign of regression.
“If you place him in a stronger Premier League side—no disrespect to Ipswich—I think he’d perform much better. Looking at what he’s produced, losing that kind of creativity from left-back would be a big blow for Ipswich.”
Davis Still Central to Ipswich’s Ambitions
As Kieran McKenna prepares his squad for another Championship campaign, Davis remains a key figure in Ipswich’s push for promotion. Goodman echoed that sentiment:
“He’s been an outstanding player for the club. If I were Ipswich, I’d be doing everything to keep him.”
Ongoing Project at Ipswich Could Keep Davis Onboard
Despite their relegation, Ipswich have retained the core of their squad and remain in a strong position. Key players are staying, and the club has shown ambition in the transfer market.
While big-money signings Jack Clarke and Jaden Philogene didn’t quite hit the mark in the Premier League, both have proven pedigree in the Championship.
Meanwhile, Omari Hutchinson remains at the club after Ipswich reportedly rejected a £35 million offer from Nottingham Forest.
Liam Delap is the only significant departure this summer, and with Kieran McKenna still at the helm—having led the club to back-to-back promotions—optimism is high at Portman Road ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Ipswich are among the favourites for promotion, and for Davis, another year as a central figure in a strong, title-challenging side may prove more appealing than a risky move to a Premier League club where game time isn’t guaranteed.
