Simon Jordan has delivered a scathing critique of Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford and incoming signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as the club races to strengthen its squad ahead of the 2025/26 season opener.
With just days left before Monday’s clash with Everton, Leeds are under pressure to bolster their attacking options. Manager Daniel Farke has already made it clear that Bamford does not feature in his plans moving forward. Meanwhile, Calvert-Lewin, currently a free agent, is poised to join Leeds and become their eighth signing of the summer. Contract details are yet to be confirmed.
Calvert-Lewin recently departed Everton after nearly a decade at Goodison Park, where he featured in 274 games and scored 71 goals. Though capable of brilliance, his career has been plagued by recurring injuries. Last season, the 28-year-old managed just three goals in 26 Premier League appearances, missing 15 matches due to hamstring and ankle problems, according to Transfermarkt.
Despite reported interest from several Premier League sides, Calvert-Lewin ultimately chose Leeds, potentially making his debut against his former club under the spotlight of Sky Sports coverage.
Speaking on talkSPORT, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan didn’t hold back in his assessment:
“It’s one crock replacing another. Patrick Bamford—injury-prone and inconsistent—out, and now Calvert-Lewin in, who’s been much the same. He might as well bring his handbag with him.”
Jordan also questioned the striker’s appeal across the market:
“It’s telling that only two newly-promoted clubs were interested. He’s available on a free, costs nothing, yet no top-tier clubs came calling.”
Leeds reportedly fended off interest from Sunderland to secure Calvert-Lewin’s signature as they push to solidify their squad in the final days of the window.
