Ipswich Town Make Enquiry for Bournemouth Midfielder Philip Billing

Ipswich Town have contacted Bournemouth to explore the possibility of signing midfielder Philip Billing, according to Teamtalk. However, the Championship side are facing stiff competition from two clubs in Germany as the transfer window edges closer to its 1 September deadline.

Billing has fallen out of favour under Cherries boss Andoni Iraola, prompting a loan move to Napoli last January. During his time in Italy, the 29-year-old made 10 appearances and scored once, playing a supporting role in helping Antonio Conte’s Napoli clinch the Serie A title ahead of Inter Milan.

Midfield Reinforcements on McKenna’s Agenda

Ipswich are reportedly targeting Billing as a potential loan signing to strengthen their midfield options. Manager Kieran McKenna is eager to bolster his squad as the club looks to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

However, competition from two unnamed German clubs could complicate matters, making Ipswich’s pursuit far from straightforward.

Billing’s potential exit has become more likely following Bournemouth’s acquisition of Amine Adli, which could clear the path for the Danish international to leave this summer.

Last season, Billing made just 10 Premier League appearances before heading to Napoli on loan.

Busy Summer for Ipswich

Following their relegation, Ipswich have been active in the transfer market. The club has secured six new additions, including loan signings Chuba Akpom, Jens Cajuste, and Cedric Kipre. Free agents David Button and Ashley Young have also joined, while Azor Matusiwa arrived on a permanent deal from Stade Rennais to add depth to the midfield.

Ipswich’s next match is an away trip to Preston North End on 23 August, with a 3pm kick-off.

Billing a Strong Loan Option for the Tractor Boys

Although Billing hasn’t fully convinced in the Premier League under Iraola, he brings significant top-flight experience and versatility. Capable of operating in various midfield roles, he offers both creativity and goal-scoring ability.

He previously played a key role in Bournemouth’s promotion campaign in 2021/22, tallying 10 goals and 10 assists—a level of performance that could be a valuable asset at Portman Road if replicated.

A loan move for Billing could prove beneficial for all involved, offering Ipswich a proven player as they push for promotion, while giving Billing more game time away from the Vitality Stadium.
