Crystal Palace Manager Glasner Calls on Fans to Focus on Positivity and Support
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has urged fans to shift their focus from negativity and external distractions to offering full support for the team. The FA Cup-winning coach hopes supporters will follow his example by turning their frustrations into positive energy to boost the squad.
Glasner acknowledged that recent off-pitch distractions had impacted his mindset, but he’s now refocused ahead of a high-stakes clash with Nottingham Forest—who ironically secured Palace’s Europa League spot following a dramatic legal battle at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Speaking after the club’s record £67.5 million sale of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, Glasner admitted:
“I had to reset mentally because sometimes you lose sight of what really matters. It’s important for our fans to do the same—to stop shouting against someone and start shouting for us. That’s what this team needs and deserves. I remember the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley—40,000 fans were behind us. That kind of support gives you strength.”
He emphasized that negative energy is counterproductive:
“You don’t gain energy from people wishing bad things on others. You gain it from encouragement—hearing ‘well done,’ ‘excellent,’ or ‘keep going!’ Complaining doesn’t help anyone or build confidence. Our fans have been great at this, and they need to keep being our 12th man.”
Despite challenges—like the failed UEFA appeal, Eze’s departure, and a quiet transfer window—Glasner is proud of how the season has started. Palace have already secured their second trophy in four months with a narrow Community Shield win over Liverpool, held Chelsea to a draw at Stamford Bridge, and claimed a historic first European victory against Fredrikstad.
He added:
“When you’re caught up in all the outside noise, you stop making fair judgments about the games. That’s why I told myself: ‘No more—I won’t let it affect me.’ I need to be rational, not emotional, in my decisions. The players wanted even more from Thursday’s match—they thought we could have scored more. They’re showing real commitment, and they deserve recognition for what they’ve done for this club.”
So far in 2025, Palace have only suffered four defeats—a testament to the core group’s consistency and work ethic.
While club chairman Steve Parish has only managed two summer signings—goalkeeper Walter Benitez and full-back Borna Sosa, who impressed on Thursday—Nottingham Forest have been far more active. They’ve added Omari Hutchinson, James McAtee, Arnaud Kalimuendo, and Douglas Luiz in a single week.
Glasner, however, declined to comment on the contrast in transfer activity:
“I can’t speak about Nottingham Forest. We haven’t done that so far. Let’s see what happens before the deadline.”
