Sunderland Eye La Liga Midfielder Following Burnley Wake-Up Call

After a sobering defeat to Burnley that brought them crashing back to earth, Sunderland have reportedly made contact over a potential move for a La Liga midfielder to bolster Regis Le Bris’ squad.

Le Bris Reflects on Burnley Loss: “We Must Learn”

Just a week earlier, Sunderland’s Premier League return had gotten off to a dream start with a 3-0 victory over West Ham United. But that early optimism was quickly dampened as fellow newly-promoted side Burnley handed them a reality check in a crucial early-season relegation clash.

Speaking after the loss, head coach Regis Le Bris acknowledged the need for his team to learn quickly.

“I’m disappointed with the result, but we started well and had a strong first half.

We created chances but didn’t take them, and in matches like this, the first goal is key — it changes everything.

A small mistake early in the second half shifted the momentum, and we struggled to build rhythm in the final third.

We have a new squad, and it’s a long process. We need to grow from experiences like this and improve quickly.”

Le Bris also highlighted that Sunderland are still in transition after a summer rebuild, with 12 new players arriving as part of their efforts to survive their first Premier League season since promotion.

Now, it appears they’re looking to add a 13th name before the transfer window closes.

Sunderland Make Move for Christantus Uche

According to AS, via Sport Witness, Sunderland have joined Leeds United and Wolves in making contact over a potential deal for Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche.

The 22-year-old Nigerian has impressed with his development in Spain and has attracted Premier League interest, particularly as Getafe look to offload players due to financial constraints.

Club president Jose Bordalás recently confirmed the club’s need to sell, stating:

“We’ll have to release some players to register all or most of the squad. I wouldn’t want Uche or anyone to leave, but we must consider the offers we’ve received — and there are several.”

This situation could open the door for Sunderland to secure Uche for a reported fee of just €15 million (£13 million), despite his release clause being as high as €25 million (£22 million).

Uche, described by U23 scout Antonio Mango as a “dominant midfielder,” is now being widely tipped for a move to the Premier League before the transfer deadline.
