While Wrexham have been linked with a move for highly-rated midfielder Jordan James, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has questioned why the club hasn’t pursued a more high-profile name—veteran striker Jamie Vardy.

Rio Ferdinand Surprised Wrexham Didn’t Target Jamie Vardy

Speaking on his Rio Presents YouTube channel, Ferdinand expressed surprise that Wrexham hadn’t made a move for Vardy, who is currently a free agent after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season.

Vardy, who famously helped Leicester win the Premier League, has been linked with several clubs since his departure, including Celtic and Napoli.

Ferdinand commented:

“As much as I love Jamie Vardy and respect everything he’s achieved, he’s not the right fit for Manchester United at this stage of his career. He still wants to play and contribute—not just sit on the bench and be a presence in the dressing room.”

“But honestly, I can’t believe he hasn’t signed for Wrexham. That move would have made so much sense right now. For him, joining United wouldn’t be helpful at this point.”
