Leicester City Eye Schalke Striker Moussa Sylla Amid Transfer Talks

Leicester City are reportedly interested in signing Schalke striker Moussa Sylla, who looks set to leave the financially troubled German club after an impressive season.

According to Bild, the Foxes are among the clubs tracking the 25-year-old forward, with competition from at least one unnamed Championship side.

Sylla was notably absent from Schalke training on Wednesday, with the club attributing his absence to stomach issues. However, Bild claims his no-show is related to an impending transfer.

Schalke, currently playing in Germany’s second tier, are facing significant financial difficulties and are expected to cash in on their top scorer to alleviate their economic woes.

The deal for Sylla is expected to involve a base fee in the region of €5–6 million (£4.3–5.2m), potentially rising to €7 million (£6m) with performance-related add-ons.

Having come through the academy at Monaco, Sylla struggled to make a consistent impact there or at Dutch side Utrecht. However, his form has significantly improved over the past two seasons.

After scoring 15 goals with Pau in France’s Ligue 2, he earned a move to Schalke, where he netted 16 goals in 27 Bundesliga 2 appearances last season.

Leicester are keen to bring in a new striker before the transfer window closes, particularly after the departure of Jamie Vardy earlier this summer.

So far this season, Jordan Ayew has led the line under manager Martí Cifuentes, starting all three of Leicester’s Championship fixtures. However, he has often dropped deeper in the second half, making way for Patson Daka, who has come off the bench.

Despite both Ayew and Daka scoring two goals each during pre-season, neither has found the net in competitive matches this term, increasing the urgency for a new attacking option.
