Ipswich Town Sign Spanish Striker Ivan Azon on Season-Long Loan from Como

Ipswich Town have secured the season-long loan of Spanish striker Ivan Azon from Italian side Como, marking their ninth signing of a busy summer transfer window.

Earlier this month, Blues manager Kieran McKenna revealed that a proposed move for Azon had been shelved following his medical in Suffolk. However, fresh negotiations led to a revised agreement—this time without a mandatory purchase clause should Ipswich secure promotion.

The 22-year-old forward has a strong pedigree, having netted 27 goals in 86 starts and 64 substitute appearances for his boyhood club Real Zaragoza before transferring to Como in February for €2 million. His performances have caught the eye of La Liga clubs Valencia and Getafe during the current window.

Azon follows right-back Darnell Furlong (£3.5m from West Brom) into Portman Road and is expected to join the squad after Saturday’s home fixture against Derby County.

Speaking to the club’s website, Azon shared his excitement:

“I’m proud and grateful to join Ipswich. This is a big club with a great history, and I want to work hard to help the team and make the fans proud.

“I’ve had some fantastic conversations with the manager, who’s given me the confidence to give my best every day.

“Ipswich has passionate supporters, and I can’t wait to experience that. I’m a strong and quick striker who will give everything for the team. I’m excited to wear the shirt and play in front of the fans.”

Núñez Deal Nearing Completion as Deadline Looms

In addition to Azon’s arrival, Ipswich are close to completing the high-profile signing of Chilean playmaker Marcelino Núñez from Norwich for a reported £7.5 million fee.

His signing would increase the senior squad size to 30—exceeding the EFL’s 25-player registration limit. With the summer window closing at 7pm on Monday, a number of departures are expected to balance the squad.

Kieran McKenna is still believed to be pursuing a central midfielder and a versatile forward as he aims to lead Ipswich back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
