Tottenham Agree €60m Deal for Xavi Simons After Player Gives Green Light
Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Dutch star Xavi Simons in a deal worth €60 million, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Spurs have been monitoring the 22-year-old for some time but initially held off on making a formal bid, as Chelsea were also showing interest. Simons was reportedly waiting to see if the Blues would make a move, but with no action from Stamford Bridge, Tottenham have made their move.
Simons enjoyed a strong season with Leipzig last year, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in 33 appearances, despite the team having an overall underwhelming campaign.
The former Barcelona and PSG talent has kicked off the current season impressively as well, already notching a goal and an assist in just two matches.
With James Maddison facing a spell on the sidelines and Dejan Kulusevski also dealing with injury issues, Spurs were in urgent need of a creative midfielder. Simons, a 28-cap Netherlands international, is seen as an ideal fit for the No. 10 role.
Renowned for his vision, dribbling ability, and attacking threat, Simons has long been considered one of Europe’s top young talents, having come through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy. He could be exactly the kind of game-changer Thomas Frank needs in North London.
That said, Tottenham supporters will need to be patient, as the deal isn’t finalized just yet. Until contracts are signed and the move is made official, there’s always room for twists—especially with clubs like Chelsea still keeping an eye on the situation.
After missing out on Eberechi Eze to rivals Arsenal, Spurs are acting swiftly this time to stay ahead in the race. And if all goes to plan, Xavi Simons could prove to be one of the smartest signings of the summer.
