The 25-year-old French forward made a quick trip back to Wearside on Friday evening, rejoining the squad on Saturday morning before making a memorable impact in the 96th minute.
Le Bris was quick to highlight the remarkable effort Isidor put in to be available for the game: “Yes, it’s brilliant. I agree. Wilson is very connected to the club, the squad, and the project. He didn’t start the first two matches, but yesterday was special for him. He flew back late and was ready to go this morning.”
Isidor has now scored twice from the bench in three league appearances, despite not yet starting a Premier League match under Le Bris.
The head coach added, “He’s engaged with the squad, wanted to understand how the game was set up, and when he came on, he showed he was ready. He’s scored two of the three goals, but still hasn’t started a Premier League game.”
The striker’s growing influence offers Le Bris a welcome challenge in choosing his starting lineup ahead of the next match. The Sunderland coach also emphasized the importance of the existing squad, despite the spotlight on their summer signings.
“We often talk about new signings, but I want to stress that we already have talented players in the squad,” Le Bris said. “They might not know the Premier League, but they’re capable.
Of course, they need to improve, but they already have a strong connection with the club, and their energy and work ethic is undeniable.”
Le Bris also gave an update on Nordi Mukiele, who took a couple of knocks during the game but finished the match without serious injury. “Yes, he’s fine. Just a kick,” Le Bris confirmed after Sunderland’s win.
