Brewster Reflects on First Derby Goal and Hard-Fought Draw at Ipswich
Striker Rhian Brewster shared his thoughts after opening his Derby County goalscoring account in Saturday’s 2-2 Sky Bet Championship draw against Ipswich Town.
The hosts took the lead in the 33rd minute, but Derby responded strongly after the break.
Carlton Morris equalised from the penalty spot five minutes into the second half, and Brewster coolly slotted home in the 70th minute to put the Rams ahead.
However, a late penalty for Ipswich denied Derby all three points at Portman Road.
Brewster, who joined Derby from Sheffield United over the summer, made his first league start for the club in the match and spoke to RamsTV afterwards.
On earning a point at Portman Road:
“We’re frustrated not to come away with the win because we gave everything from the first whistle.
We were in the game for the full 100-plus minutes, and while there are plenty of positives to take, there are also areas we need to improve on. The international break gives us a chance to work on that.”
He added: “We’ll stick together and keep pushing as a group over the next two weeks, and we’ll take the positives into the match against West Brom.”
On scoring his first Derby goal:
“It felt great to get off the mark, especially in front of the fans. My family and friends were in the stands, so it was a special moment. It was a good finish, but now it’s about continuing to work hard and adding more goals.”
On making the most of the international break:
“We’ll use the time to train hard and keep building. It was a tough game, and we started to tire towards the end, so we know we need to improve our fitness and sharpness as a team.”
