Derby County’s Transfer Activity Nears Completion as Goudmijn Set for Loan Exit

Derby County’s transfer business for 2025 is virtually complete, but manager John Eustace has still faced some difficult decisions in recent days.

Although the transfer window has closed in England, moves are still taking place across Europe — including in Scotland, where Hibernian are pursuing Birmingham City striker Lyndon Dykes.

With several countries keeping their windows open until 11pm, English clubs remain at risk of late exits. For Derby, though, the focus has shifted to streamlining the squad. Offloading players who haven’t quite made an impression in recent months has become a priority — including one of last summer’s signings.

Kenzo Goudmijn Set to Join Go Ahead Eagles on Loan

Kenzo Goudmijn, who arrived at Derby in July 2024, made an encouraging start to life in England. But after early promise, his involvement gradually declined, and the beginning of the current season has brought more frustration than opportunity.

Now, a fresh start appears on the horizon. Dutch outlet VI reports that Go Ahead Eagles are leading the race to sign the 23-year-old midfielder on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

Heracles Almelo are also believed to be interested, but it seems Go Ahead — currently sitting 13th in the Eredivisie — are close to sealing a deal.

Before moving to Derby, Goudmijn featured for AZ Alkmaar and Excelsior, racking up 76 top-flight appearances and over 100 games in the Eerste Divisie.

Championship Challenges for Goudmijn

Despite efforts to integrate him, Derby have struggled to find a consistent role for Goudmijn. He initially impressed in an attacking midfield position under former manager Paul Warne, but his performances have since tapered off.

The Championship’s physical nature has proved a challenge, and although he possesses vision and technical ability, Derby’s style of play over the past year hasn’t suited his strengths.

With three years left on his contract at Pride Park, time is still on Goudmijn’s side. But with Eustace aiming to reduce the squad to a maximum of 25 players, tough calls were inevitable — and right now, Goudmijn is deemed surplus to requirements.
