Football pundits Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have shared their thoughts on where Everton might end up in the Premier League this season—and the outlook is positive.

The Toffees have started the campaign well, securing two wins from their opening three league matches. They head into the international break sitting fifth in the table and have also advanced in the League Cup.

Following a shaky opening at Elland Road, Everton’s form and performances have improved notably. The summer transfer window was productive too, with nine new signings brought in to strengthen the squad.

After years spent in the bottom half of the table and constant battles to avoid relegation, there’s finally a sense of optimism. According to Shearer and Lineker, Everton could be turning a corner.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, the former strikers suggested Everton may be the strongest team outside the Premier League’s elite.

“They could be the best of the other bunch outside that top eight,” Shearer remarked.

“Totally agree,” Lineker added.

EVERTON TO LEAD THE PACK BEHIND THE BIG TEAMS?

It’s worth noting that the media’s definition of the top clubs seems to be expanding—from the top four, to six, and now eight. At this rate, we may soon be talking about a top 10.

Semantics aside, a top-half finish should be the bare minimum target for Everton this season. The club has recruited smartly and retained core talent. While Branthwaite’s injury has been a setback, his return will strengthen what is already a competitive starting lineup. For the first time in years, there are genuine options on the bench as well.

David Moyes has done excellent work since returning, guiding the team to a 13th-place finish last season after stepping in for Sean Dyche in January. From the threat of relegation to a safe mid-table finish, the improvement was clear.

With more creativity and attacking firepower now in the squad, Everton have shown glimpses of an exciting style of play—something fans have been craving.

Of course, the squad still has its limitations, but there’s reason to be ambitious. A push for European qualification shouldn’t be out of the question. After everything the club and fans have endured in recent years, it’s about time Everton aimed higher.
