Josh Sargent Reveals Why He Turned Down Transfer Interest to Stay at Norwich City

Norwich City fans breathed a sigh of relief as the transfer window slammed shut with star striker Josh Sargent still wearing yellow and green. Now, the American forward has opened up about his decision to stay at Carrow Road.

The summer window was largely a success for the Canaries. Thirteen new players arrived to strengthen the squad, and aside from a few painful departures — including Marcelino Núñez to fierce rivals Ipswich Town and Borja Sainz — Norwich avoided losing any truly irreplaceable talent. Most importantly, they held on to Sargent.

The 25-year-old has carried his superb form into the new season, scoring six goals in just five games. And while there was strong deadline-day interest from Sunderland, Sargent has confirmed he’s staying put — at least until January.

Why Sargent Stayed at Carrow Road

Speaking to USA Today, Sargent explained the factors behind his decision to remain at Norwich:

“There were a lot of things to consider — not just for me, but for my family as well. I feel like I’m in a really good place at Norwich. It’s a club where I know I can score goals, and that’s hugely important with the World Cup coming up.

I’ve had a strong start to the season, and my hope is to keep that going and continue finding the net.”

With Sargent leading the line, Liam Manning’s side will be aiming for a serious promotion push this season — and if his form holds, he could be the key to unlocking a return to the Premier League.

Sargent Still Waiting to Break U.S. Goal Drought

Despite his red-hot form at the club level, Sargent has not scored for the United States national team since 2019. However, he’s been recalled to the squad by Mauricio Pochettino after his electric start to the Championship season.

The striker addressed the drought in the same interview:

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think about it. Of course, I know it’s been a while.

But I’m playing really well for my club right now, and I just keep focusing on that. I know I have the ability to score goals, and I believe it’s only a matter of time before I get back on the scoresheet for the national team.

For now, I’ll keep my head down and keep working hard — the goals will come.”
