Burnley’s Lowball Offer for Josh Sargent Falls Far Short of Norwich Valuation
Josh Sargent was at the center of heavy transfer speculation over the summer, but Norwich City successfully retained their star striker. And based on the latest reports regarding Burnley’s bid, it’s no surprise he stayed at Carrow Road.
Following a standout individual season in 2024/25—despite Norwich’s failure to secure promotion—Sargent naturally attracted attention. He was linked with clubs in the Bundesliga, as well as top-flight interest from Sunderland, Burnley, and previously Everton.
Retaining Sargent has been a major boost for Liam Manning’s ambitions of leading Norwich back to the Premier League. But now, the details of Burnley’s offer have emerged—and it was far from persuasive.
According to Alan Nixon, Burnley tabled a bid starting at just £1.5 million, with additional “complicated extras” potentially taking the deal closer to £10 million. However, Norwich’s valuation sits firmly around £20 million, making Burnley’s approach fall well short.
While Bundesliga side Wolfsburg reportedly made a more serious move, no agreement was reached.
Sargent, for his part, is said to be happy at Norwich. He believes the club is the right environment to continue his development and push for a spot in the USA’s 2026 World Cup squad.
Promotion Hopes Rest on Sargent’s Shoulders
Keeping Sargent was one of Norwich’s biggest wins of the transfer window. With six goals in just five games so far this season, fans have dubbed the striker a “cheat code”—and rightly so. His current form is one of the key reasons Norwich are strong contenders for at least a play-off place.
Still, head coach Liam Manning will need the entire squad to perform consistently if promotion is to become a reality. Sargent may be one of the Championship’s top talents, but he can’t do it all alone.
One thing remains clear: if Norwich fail to gain promotion this season, Sargent is unlikely to remain in the second tier beyond 2025/26.
