After a bright start to the season, Richarlison’s form seems to be waning, and his latest outing with Brazil may give Tottenham boss Thomas Frank something to think about.

The Brazilian striker was among Spurs’ standout performers during their first three matches against Paris Saint-Germain, Burnley, and Manchester City. His two-goal display in the 3-0 win over Burnley even earned him the Premier League Player of the Week award in gameweek one.

However, things have taken a turn. The 28-year-old struggled in Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth, where he was outmuscled by the Cherries’ centre-backs and failed to provide a reliable outlet during pressure phases. Unfortunately for Spurs, Richarlison’s international form hasn’t provided any reassurance.

Underwhelming for Brazil

In Brazil’s 3-0 victory over Chile last week, Richarlison played just 11 minutes, with Chelsea’s Joao Pedro preferred in the starting role. When given a chance to start against Bolivia, he again failed to make an impact as Brazil suffered a 1-0 defeat.

Substituted off in the 61st minute for Pedro, Richarlison received a lukewarm reception from the Brazilian press. GE Globo rated his performance 5/10, commenting:
“He was rarely involved. On his one real chance in the 37th minute, he broke into the box and shot powerfully, but it deflected off a defender. He was the first player to be subbed off and remains goalless for the national team since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.”

Kolo Muani Waiting in the Wings?

Richarlison’s dip in form is becoming a concern for Thomas Frank, especially with ongoing uncertainty around Dominic Solanke’s fitness. However, Spurs’ recent loan acquisition of Randal Kolo Muani could provide a solution.

The French forward brings both experience and attacking quality, and Frank might consider starting him up front in Spurs’ next fixture at the London Stadium. A possible pairing with Xavi Simons in the No.10 role could offer Tottenham a fresh attacking look.
