Frank Lampard Praises Coventry City’s Composure Amid Norwich’s Frustrating Tactics in CBS Arena Draw

Frank Lampard applauded his Coventry City players for keeping their cool during a tense and frustrating 1-1 draw against Norwich City at the CBS Arena, accusing the visitors of using obvious time-wasting tactics throughout the match.

Despite dominating large spells of the game, the Sky Blues found themselves behind after Norwich scored from one of just four shots on goal.

However, their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time, as Haji Wright equalised in the sixth minute of added time.

The late goal was met with jubilation from the home crowd, who had grown increasingly frustrated with Norwich’s approach to protecting their narrow lead — including frequent stoppages and players going down to waste time.

“I thought it was the least we deserved,” said a clearly agitated Lampard following the final whistle. “We were fantastic — absolutely fantastic — against a very strong Norwich side.

They’ve got quality players, had a good summer recruitment window, and are well-coached. But we dominated every aspect of the game.”

Lampard continued, “Sure, they had their goal and a few breakaway moments, but they were rare. We had 28 shots, most of the possession, higher expected goals — everything was there. That equaliser was the bare minimum we deserved.”

When asked about Norwich’s time-wasting tactics and players feigning injuries, Lampard didn’t hold back:
“It was frustrating — very frustrating. But that’s football. It’s the referee’s job to manage those situations, not ours.

I thought our players kept their heads really well. We didn’t let it distract us, even though what was going on out there was pretty clear.”

Coventry’s equaliser came after a moment of grit and determination from Milan van Ewijk, who battled to win the ball in the box.

His effort led to Ellis Simms firing a shot that was parried into the path of Wright, who calmly tapped it home to level the score.

Reflecting on the goal, Lampard said:
“Yeah, it was always going to take something like that today. When a team defends in numbers like Norwich did, it can be incredibly hard to break them down.

To be fair to them, they defended their box well — lots of blocks, lots of bodies in the way — so credit where it’s due.”

“But I was really pleased with how we built our attacks, how we kept applying pressure, winning the ball back, and going again. That persistence is exactly what I want from this team.”

Despite the frustration of not taking all three points, Lampard remained optimistic.
“We’re obviously disappointed with the result, but performances like this show who we are and what we’re trying to build. If we keep playing this way, more often than not, we’ll win these types of games.”
