Journalist and fan writer James Jones recently criticised the team’s midfield, stating:
“It has been painfully clear that Potter’s side lacks pace, creativity, and physicality in the middle of the park. A combination of James Ward-Prowse, Tomas Soucek, and Guido Rodriguez does not equal a top-quality midfield at this level.”

Tomas Soucek’s struggles were especially evident in the loss to Spurs, where he received a straight red card early in the second half. His performance underlined manager Graham Potter’s need to reinforce the midfield in the upcoming January transfer window.

West Ham Move for Tottenham’s Yves Bissouma

According to Africa Foot, West Ham have made a formal offer for Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma, who is said to be eager to continue his career in the Premier League. Currently sidelined with a knee injury until October, Bissouma is expected to remain at Spurs until at least January.

Several other clubs are reportedly interested in the Mali international, including Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, and Chelsea. However, while Spurs are open to selling the player—previously valued at around £14 million—they are said to prefer a transfer abroad. Overseas clubs such as Chicago Fire, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe, and Lyon are also in the mix.

Why Bissouma Could Be a Defensive Upgrade

Soucek has endured a difficult campaign, with a red card against Spurs and a poor 6.1 SofaScore rating against Chelsea—one of the lowest among outfield players that day. In contrast, Bissouma is viewed as a potential defensive upgrade thanks to his proven ball-winning and passing skills.

The 27-year-old, previously described as “outstanding” by analyst Statman Dave during his time at Brighton, has significant Premier League experience and a high ceiling if he can rediscover form and maintain the right attitude.

Though Bissouma has reportedly fallen out of favour under Thomas Frank, West Ham may see the upcoming window as the ideal opportunity to secure a talented midfielder who could help resolve their ongoing issues in the centre of the park.
