In contrast, new signing Douglas Luiz impressed once again, further highlighting the gap in quality.
While Yates may still play a valuable role off the pitch as a leader in training and in the dressing room, his chances of featuring regularly in the Premier League or Europa League are fading.
Postecoglou appears focused on form and quality over loyalty, and as competition increases, Yates’ standing in the squad could continue to decline.
