Crystal Palace Secure Dramatic Victory Over Liverpool to Stay Unbeaten
Crystal Palace pulled off a significant win against Premier League leaders Liverpool on Saturday, extending their unbeaten run in a thrilling match at Selhurst Park.

Despite Liverpool’s late goal, Palace had the final say. Deep into stoppage time, a long throw-in was flicked on to Eddie Nketiah at the back post.
The striker stayed composed and smashed a left-footed volley past Alisson to seal a dramatic 2-1 victory. After a brief VAR check for offside, the goal stood, sending Selhurst Park into celebration.
The win lifts Palace to second place in the league table—at least temporarily—and continues their strong start to the season.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Nketiah said:
“The ball was flicked on and I just focused on my first touch. I trust both feet, and it was a nice finish with my left. There was a nervous wait for VAR, but it’s no more than we deserved. We never stop believing.”
He added: “That spirit comes from our fans and the unity in the squad. The manager told us to stay calm, and we’d get another chance—we did.
Not many teams create that many chances against Liverpool, so it’s a well-earned three points. We’re taking things game by game. It’s a great group, and we’ll keep pushing to bring more joy to the supporters.”
Liverpool’s Response
Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted his side struggled in the first half, saying:
“Very, very difficult first half for us. Palace played well and deserved their lead. Honestly, we were fortunate to be only 1–0 down at the break.”
Slot continued:
“We improved after halftime, created more chances, and eventually scored. It looked like we might get a draw, but they scored from a set piece in stoppage time.
If we want to compete at the top, we have to be better defending set pieces. The margins are so small—one moment, one second ball, and it falls their way.”
He acknowledged Palace’s approach worked well:
“Their game plan caused us problems, especially in the first half. They’re a team built to counter, and pressing them can be risky. We had a lot of trouble with that today.”
