Sunderland Return to Premier League Action with Tough Test Against Nottingham Forest
Sunderland will resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday evening with a challenging trip to face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Ahead of the clash, Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris has warned his side not to underestimate Forest, despite their recent results. Le Bris believes it is only a matter of time before Ange Postecoglou’s team start converting their strong performances into goals.
Forest are yet to register a win under Postecoglou, who took over from Nuno Espírito Santo, but all four of his games so far have been away from home.
The team came close to a significant victory midweek, drawing 2-2 with Real Betis in the Europa League after conceding a late equaliser.
When asked in his pre-match press conference whether now was a good time to play Forest, Le Bris acknowledged their quality and the threat they pose.
“We’ll see at the end of the game,” Le Bris said. “I still believe they have a really strong squad and are well coached.
Sometimes you can create a lot of chances without being clinical — that’s probably the case for them right now. We just hope they don’t find that sharpness against us.”
“The key for us is to remain consistent and improve our own efficiency. What we know about Forest is clear: they have quality across the pitch, dangerous wingers, technically gifted players, and a strong mentality.
They’re well-organised, very offensive, and always a threat. We won’t get anything handed to us — we’ll have to be at our very best, stay proactive, and take our chances.”
Meanwhile, Postecoglou is looking forward to his first home game in charge and remains optimistic about his team’s trajectory.
“I think we’re definitely making progress,” he said. “The football is gradually getting to where we want it to be. The results haven’t gone our way, but that’s not down to poor performances.”
“If we weren’t playing well or developing as a team, then I’d be concerned. But from what I’ve seen so far, the players are responding well, and we’re definitely heading in the right direction.”
