Xavi Open to Manchester United Job Amid Amorim Pressure, Says Romano

Former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is reportedly ready to take charge at Manchester United immediately if current boss Ruben Amorim is dismissed, according to GIVEMESPORT’s senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Xavi is keen on a move to the Premier League and would accept the United job even without the lure of European football.

However, Romano also clarified that no talks or formal negotiations are currently underway regarding the 45-year-old taking over at Old Trafford mid-season.

Ruben Amorim is under growing pressure following Manchester United’s poor start to the Premier League campaign. After six matches, the Red Devils are languishing in 14th place, having secured just two wins so far.

The club is reportedly exploring various long-term managerial options should Amorim be replaced. Among those being considered are Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola.

Romano stated:

“I can guarantee you, because I get many questions about Xavi and Manchester United, that Xavi is studying the Premier League.

He’s closely monitoring it and would jump at the opportunity to join Man United—even without European football. He would go immediately.

He really wants a Premier League opportunity. But as of now, there’s nothing concrete—no negotiations.”

Xavi was dismissed as Barcelona head coach in May 2024 despite having a year remaining on his contract.

His departure came just weeks after club president Joan Laporta convinced him to stay, following Xavi’s initial decision to leave at the end of the 2023/24 season.

During his three-year spell in charge at the Nou Camp, Xavi guided Barça to a La Liga title and a Spanish Super Cup in the 2022/23 season.

He recorded 91 wins in 143 matches before being replaced by former Bayern Munich and Germany boss Hansi Flick ahead of the 2024/25 season.

As a player, Xavi spent 17 years at Barcelona, winning eight La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies. He was also a key figure in Spain’s golden generation, lifting the 2010 World Cup and back-to-back European Championships in 2008 and 2012.

Following his retirement in 2019, Xavi began his managerial career with Qatari side Al-Sadd, where he spent two seasons before returning to Barcelona as head coach in November 2021.
