Jack Grealish handed his Player of the Match award to a Crystal Palace player—even though he scored the winning goal for Everton against the Eagles.

Grealish is currently on loan at Everton from Manchester City, aiming to regain his form ahead of next year’s World Cup.

The 30-year-old attacker has made a promising start on Merseyside, providing four assists so far this season under David Moyes.

This afternoon, he scored his first Premier League goal for Everton as they overturned a deficit to secure a 2-1 victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium against an impressive Palace side.

Crystal Palace initially took the lead through Daniel Munoz and held it until halftime. However, Everton equalized in the 75th minute when Iliman Ndiaye calmly converted a penalty after substitute Tim Iroegbunam was fouled by Palace defender Maxence Lacroix.

Just when it looked like the match would end in a draw, Grealish bundled home the winner deep into injury time (93rd minute), following a save from Dean Henderson on Beto’s close-range header.

After the match, Grealish expressed his delight at scoring his first goal for Everton and thanked the fans for their warm welcome. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said:

“It’s brilliant. It feels great to score here. It’s funny because in previous games at this stadium, I kept telling myself around the 85th minute, ‘Come on Jack, score now.

‘ I did that against Villa and West Ham but didn’t manage it. Today I said the same thing—and this time I scored and ran over to my mum and dad, so it was special.”
“That goal is for all the Evertonians who have made me feel so welcome.”

During the interview, Grealish was about to receive the Player of the Match award for his performance. However, the former Aston Villa star insisted that the accolade should go to Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton instead.

Wharton, who has been impressive since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers earlier this year and making his England debut, caught Grealish’s eye.

Grealish said:
“As a winger, that’s what you want—one goal and four assists. It was tough today against such a quality team with incredible players.

I think Adam Wharton was the best player on the pitch today. I see the Man of the Match award coming my way, but honestly, it should go to him.”
