Sean Dyche Open to Rangers Role After Russell Martin’s Exit

Former Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche is reportedly open to taking the managerial role at Rangers following the dismissal of Russell Martin, according to journalist Fraser Fletcher.

Rangers parted ways with Martin on Sunday after a 1-1 draw against Falkirk, and the club is now assessing several candidates to fill the vacancy.

Dyche, currently out of work since leaving Everton in January, is said to be among the leading contenders for the job.

The 54-year-old is considered a “top target” by the Rangers board and is available for an immediate appointment.

According to sources at GIVEMESPORT, Dyche features prominently on the club’s shortlist, alongside former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl.

Fletcher notes that Rangers’ sporting director Kevin Thelwell could be instrumental in attracting Dyche to Ibrox, having previously worked alongside him at Everton.

Their strong working relationship may influence the club’s decision as they seek a steady hand to guide the team forward.

Dyche brings a wealth of top-level experience, having managed 332 Premier League games with Burnley and Everton, as well as 171 matches in the Championship with Burnley and Watford.

He took charge at Everton in January 2023 and remained at the helm for nearly two years before being dismissed with the club sitting 16th in the table.

Russell Martin’s tenure at Rangers came to an end after a difficult start to the season. Appointed in June on a three-year deal following Barry Ferguson’s interim spell, Martin managed just five wins in 17 matches.

Fan frustration boiled over following Sunday’s draw at Falkirk, with Martin needing a police escort from the stadium after supporters attempted to block the team bus.

Rangers have managed only one victory in their first seven Premiership fixtures and have also suffered consecutive losses in the Europa League, falling to Genk and Sturm Graz.

The search for a new manager is now underway, with the club aiming to stabilize after a turbulent few months.
