Vitor Pereira Urges Wolves to Be ‘Prepared’ for Sunderland Challenge

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira says his side must be “prepared” for a difficult test when they face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.

The Midlands club head to the North East still searching for their first Premier League win of the season, having collected just two points from seven games. In contrast, Sunderland have made a solid start, picking up 11 points from their opening fixtures.

A victory for the Black Cats would see them move 12 points clear of Wolves, and Pereira has warned his players they will need to perform at their best to avoid that outcome.

Pereira on Sunderland’s Strengths

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Pereira praised Sunderland’s form and home advantage while urging his team to stick to their identity.

“Of course, we need to be prepared, because they are strong — especially playing at home. They’re in a good moment, and we need to be at our best level,” he said.

“But every time, I say the same thing — whether it’s Sunderland, Tottenham, or Brighton, we have to face these teams with our tools, our work, our ideas, and our identity. We need to play football and compete with them. It will be a good atmosphere, and we have to show that we’re ready.”

Pereira Reflects on Wolves’ Recent Progress

Despite Wolves’ poor league position, Pereira highlighted signs of improvement, noting that his team are now three matches unbeaten across all competitions.

“If we look at the last three games, we didn’t lose any,” he said. “We won in the cup, and we went to Tottenham and got a draw — before that match, if you’d told me we’d take a point there, I’d have accepted it.

“But in the end, the small details make the difference. A small moment cost us two points in the last minute, and that’s the frustration. Against Brighton, it was similar — they’re a strong team, and last season they were better than us, but this time it was another late detail that cost us again.

“If I look at our progress, I can see that we’re becoming more competitive. We’re getting closer to winning, and most importantly, we’re not losing.”

Pereira will now be hoping that Wolves can turn those small improvements into results as they look to secure their first league win of the season against an in-form Sunderland side.
