Danny Rohl Set to Become Rangers Manager as Cavenagh and Marathe Face Scrutiny

Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe have done little to help their cause, as Danny Rohl now appears on the verge of becoming the new Rangers manager.

Initially, Steven Gerrard was in talks to replace Russell Martin, but after discussions with the Rangers hierarchy, the Liverpool legend decided against a return to Ibrox. Negotiations with Kevin Muscat also collapsed, leaving the club uncertain over their next move.

It now seems that Rohl is Cavenagh’s preferred candidate, but the drawn-out process over the past two weeks has raised serious questions about the American ownership’s handling of the situation.

Rohl Returns After Rejecting Rangers

The decision to bring Rohl back into contention has been labelled “ridiculous” by former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill, who criticised the ongoing managerial saga and the state of affairs at Ibrox.

Rohl had previously ruled himself out of the running while Rangers were still in talks with Muscat, making his renewed candidacy a surprising twist.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 20 October, Jim White remarked, “If Rohl is back in, he’s back in after counting himself out,” to which O’Neill replied, “It’s so ridiculous. Rangers have been in decline for some time now and don’t seem to know how to get out of it.”

Rohl already faces an uphill battle with supporters, who have grown increasingly frustrated by the team’s poor form under Martin and the delay in appointing a successor.

Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises group had the entire international break to steady the ship, but their indecision has only deepened concerns about their competence in managing the club.

Ibrox Fans Fear Another Martin Situation

Russell Martin’s brief spell in charge was disastrous — lasting only 123 days with a win rate of just 29 percent. Under his leadership, Rangers endured their worst league start since 1978, sitting eighth in the table after only one win in seven matches.

Rohl’s managerial résumé doesn’t inspire much more confidence. His only experience as a first-team head coach came at Sheffield Wednesday, where he departed after less than two years in charge.

While Martin at least had Premier League experience with Southampton before arriving in Glasgow, fans fear the German coach could face a similarly short and troubled tenure at Ibrox.
