Danny Röhl has reportedly instructed the Rangers board to complete three key signings in the upcoming January transfer window — and his top transfer target has already been revealed.
The German coach has made an impressive start to life at Ibrox, winning both of his first two Scottish Premiership matches.
That’s already more league victories than his predecessor Russell Martin managed, with the former boss leaving the club in a dire position.
However, despite Röhl’s positive impact, Rangers still have plenty of ground to recover if they’re to challenge for the title. Hearts currently sit top of the table, 14 points clear, and the new manager knows reinforcements are urgently needed.
The Heart & Hand Podcast recently criticised several first-team players for their lack of quality and composure, particularly up front, where the team’s struggles have been glaring.
Their verdict summed up the problem bluntly — Rangers are short of confidence, quality, and a reliable goalscorer.
According to TEAMtalk, Röhl has told the Ibrox hierarchy he wants three new signings in January, with the board prepared to support his plans.
His main priority is securing a commanding central defender, amid ongoing doubts about Nasser Djiga, Clinton Nsiala, Emmanuel Fernandes, John Souttar, and Derek Cornelius.
But the rebuild won’t stop there. Röhl also wants to add an energetic midfielder and a prolific striker to his squad — areas that have clearly fallen short this season.
Defensive frailties have plagued the Gers all year, highlighted again during their poor showing against SK Brann and the nine goals conceded over two legs to Club Brugge.
Even captain James Tavernier was visibly frustrated by those performances.
The stats underline the urgency: Tavernier, a right-back, remains the only Rangers player to have scored more than two league goals this season.
Röhl’s January plans, therefore, aim to fix issues at both ends of the pitch — shoring up the defence while finally finding a reliable source of goals.
