“Senseless players” – Rangers hero says squad need balls to wear the shirt

Rangers face AS Roma in the Europa League at Ibrox this evening, looking to turn around a disappointing start to their European campaign, having yet to record a win in the competition this season.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Amoruso didn’t hold back:

“The squad is a poor one, with senseless players. You might think of Scotland as a minor league, but Rangers have a history—they’re a symbol.”

The former defender stressed that the prospect of Hearts winning the Scottish Premiership could serve as a wake-up call for the club:

“You have to have balls to wear that shirt, it’s not easy. In that league, finishing second is a failure. You need players with strong personalities. If Hearts were to win this year, it would be great, for the novelty and to wake up someone.”

Amoruso also highlighted the potential impact of the Ibrox atmosphere on the game:

“It’s changed a bit compared to my time, given the disastrous results. But it’s like a fire under the ashes. It doesn’t take much to ignite.

The team is recovering, and Roma mustn’t let them play and dominate the game, otherwise the crowd could lend a significant hand.

Rangers fans want to see sweat and energy. If Roma dictate the rules straight away, then it will be different.”

With Rangers going through a period of instability, tonight’s match represents a key chance to restore confidence.

Roma’s injury concerns and attacking issues could provide an opportunity for Danny Röhl’s side to capitalize and get their European campaign back on track.
