Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson says he is excited to lead his side out at Portman Road tomorrow as they face Ipswich Town at the historic Suffolk venue.
The match marks the first-ever league meeting between the two clubs, with Wrexham making the long trip south for what promises to be a significant fixture.
Parkinson knows the area well, having begun his managerial career with Colchester United, and he admits returning to Portman Road always feels special.
Wrexham have impressed on their travels in the Championship this season, including a notable victory at Norwich City – fierce rivals of Ipswich – and Parkinson is hoping for another strong showing against the Tractor Boys, who were relegated from the Premier League last year.
“I managed Colchester, so I’ve spent plenty of time in that part of the country, and Portman Road is a fantastic ground to visit,” Parkinson said. “It has a deep sense of history. I remember Bobby Robson’s team lifting the FA Cup many years ago.”
“Portman Road has a brilliant atmosphere, and I’m really looking forward to taking the boys there. Ipswich still have many of their Premier League-quality players from last season, so it’s going to be another really big challenge for us.”
“We’ve gone to some big clubs already this season and produced strong performances, and I’ll be expecting the same from the lads again.”
