Barry Ferguson predicts Livingston surprise, guesses scoreline vs Rangers

Barry Ferguson does not believe Livingston will finish bottom of the William Hill Premiership as they prepare to face Rangers on Saturday.

The former Ibrox captain expects David Martindale’s side to be well-organised when they travel to Govan on 22 November, even though Rangers are heavy favourites.

Danny Rohl is currently dealing with a defensive injury crisis, with John Souttar and Derek Cornelius both ruled out after picking up knocks during the international break. Despite this setback, the German boss is aiming for a fourth consecutive league win, and many Rangers supporters will see Livingston as there for the taking given they have managed just one Premiership victory all season.

Rangers tipped for comfortable win at home

Ferguson is confident the Light Blues will secure a straightforward win at Ibrox, predicting a 3–0 scoreline. He does not expect Livingston to cause many problems for Rohl’s backline, especially with the West Lothian club winless in their last 10 league outings.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on 21 November, the ex-Scotland midfielder said:
“I think Rangers will win the game pretty convincingly. I know Livingston are at the bottom of the table. I don’t think Livingston will finish at the bottom of the league.”

He added:
“You know what you’re going to get from Martindale. He’ll come to Ibrox and set his team up to be hard to beat, but I think it’s going to be a long afternoon. Rangers will win it pretty convincingly. Rangers 3–0 Livi.”

Opportunity for Rohl to try a new system

Rohl’s selection choices will be intriguing, especially with Youssef Chermiti and Mikey Moore also expected to miss out. Their absence may hand Livingston a glimmer of hope.

Oliver Antman will be looking to force his way back into the manager’s plans, and Moore’s injury could open the door for him to feature. Defensively, Rangers must stay disciplined without Souttar and Cornelius, potentially relying on a solid two banks of four.

A back four of James Tavernier, Nasser Djiga, Emmanuel Fernandez and Jayden Meghoma could be supported by a midfield featuring Antman, Nicolas Raskin, Connor Barron and Djeidi Gassama.

Up front, Bojan Miovski and Danilo could form a strike partnership in a 4-4-2 setup, offering a departure from the 3-4-3 and 4-2-3-1 formations Rohl has previously used at Ibrox.
