The most compelling reason to start Brian Brobbey is simple: he made a decisive impact off the bench against Arsenal, scoring a superb goal that secured Sunderland a crucial point. Although Brobbey has yet to start a Premier League match for Sunderland, he has consistently delivered big moments from the bench. Against Chelsea in late October, he used his pace and power to run in behind, shrug off Tosin Adarabioyo, and provide the assist for Chemsdine Talbi’s stoppage-time winner.
These contributions have earned Sunderland three additional points in their last three matches — two from the Chelsea victory and one from the Arsenal draw. The Dutch forward, described by U23 scout Antonio Mango as “a freight train when dribbling,” has shown he can change games but has not yet been given the chance to prove himself from the first whistle.
With Isidor’s form dipping and Brobbey thriving whenever called upon, today’s clash with Fulham may be the perfect moment for Le Bris to reward his summer signing with a well-deserved place in the starting XI.
