“Wrexham DIG deep to draw 0-0 against Ipswich Town in the Championship

Wrexham earned a hard-fought point in their first-ever league encounter with Ipswich Town, holding the hosts to a 0-0 draw at Portman Road.

Ipswich, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, controlled much of the Championship clash and created the clearer chances.

However, Wrexham’s disciplined and determined defending ensured they extended their unbeaten league run to six matches.

Phil Parkinson made three changes from the team that beat Charlton Athletic 1-0 before the international break. Issa Kabore and Kieffer Moore, who both started that victory, were unavailable, joining Libby Cacace on the injury list.

With Nathan Broadhead moving to the bench, James McClean, Josh Windass, and Sam Smith were brought into the starting lineup.

Ipswich began brightly, with Sindre Walle-Egeli forcing a save from Arthur Okonkwo. A misplaced clearance from Ipswich keeper Christian Walton gifted Windass an opportunity on the edge of the area, but his shot was swiftly blocked.

Despite that scare, Ipswich continued to threaten. Dara O’Shea volleyed off-target, and Leif Davis saw a low effort comfortably gathered by Okonkwo. Chuba Akpom also missed a chance after pouncing on a loose pass from Max Cleworth.

Okonkwo stayed busy, tipping Jaden Philogene’s strike wide. Although Ipswich dominated possession and kept Wrexham pinned in their own half for much of the opening period, the home side couldn’t convert their pressure into a breakthrough, leaving the match goalless at halftime.

Ipswich came out strong after the restart, with Okonkwo again stopping Philogene. Moments later, the Wrexham keeper produced an excellent block to deny Akpom after Philogene’s shot deflected into his path.

Walle-Egeli went close again, firing just over, before Okonkwo made another routine stop from Jack Taylor as Wrexham continued to dig in defensively.

Chances were scarce for Wrexham at the other end, prompting Parkinson to turn to his bench.

Okonkwo remained the busier of the two goalkeepers, denying Walle-Egeli once more, while Kasey McAteer wasted a golden opportunity—shooting wide from close range following an Ipswich free-kick.

With neither side able to break the deadlock, the match ended in a stalemate.
