“Absolutely Monsters”- Neil McCann blown away by what Rangers star did Vs Livingston

Neil McCann had high praise for Emmanuel Fernandez’s first goal against Livingston on Saturday.

Rangers secured a 2–1 victory over Livingston in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox. Mohamed Diomande’s second-half strike sealed the win for Danny Rohl’s side, coming after a marginal offside decision went in their favour.

Before that, Tete Yengi had levelled the match in the first half, and the visitors looked capable of taking all three points until Bojan Miovski slipped a pass through to Diomande late in the game.

Despite the win, Rangers were booed off at half-time by the home crowd, with Rohl later admitting his team’s performance against the league’s bottom club was far from acceptable.

Thelo Aasgaard endured a particularly disappointing display, with the Norwegian midfielder substituted at the break after failing to influence the game.

McCann praises Fernandez’s “monster header”

With John Souttar and Derek Cornelius both injured on international duty, Fernandez was handed a start. The 24-year-old arrived in the summer from Peterborough United for a fee of around £3.5 million. He made his Rangers debut in August against Alloa Athletic in the Premier Sports Cup and appeared in the league soon afterwards.

However, after just one Premiership start against St Mirren, Fernandez didn’t feature again until late October. Saturday’s match was only his fourth appearance for the club — and he grabbed his opportunity in style.

Fernandez not only opened the scoring, but delivered an excellent defensive performance throughout the game.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene, former Rangers winger Neil McCann said:

“We know he has real ability attacking set-pieces from his time down south. That header is an absolute monster. He has smashed it into the roof of the net. Danny Wilson could only stand and watch.”

McCann also applauded James Tavernier’s cross:

“It’s perfect. He hasn’t put much whip on it, just clipped it into the right area because they know Fernandez will go and attack it — and he did that brilliantly.”

Fernandez pleased to finally make his mark

After being sidelined for nearly two months, Fernandez admitted he was relieved to show his worth.

Speaking to RangersTV, he said:

“It’s tough when players in your position are doing well or are trusted. You just have to stay committed in training and wait for your chance.

The coaching staff have been great — very open when I speak to them. I’m really grateful. I got my opportunity today, and we got a good result.”

Rangers now prepare for their Europa League clash with Braga on Thursday, where Fernandez could make his first European appearance.
