“It’s Bizzare”- Chris Sutton surprised at what Leeds United fans did towards Daniel Farke at Elland Road

This isn’t your typical Sunderland story from former striker Martyn Waghorn, but it reflects the growing frustration surrounding Leeds United.

A large portion of the club’s fanbase wants the 49ers Enterprises ownership group and Paraag Marathe to dismiss Daniel Farke following five Premier League defeats in six matches.

Leeds returned to Elland Road on Sunday after back-to-back losses away to Nottingham Forest and Brighton. They once again took the lead, only to concede twice in the second half.

The defeat leaves them in the relegation zone, and with Manchester City away next, followed by home games against Chelsea and Liverpool, the run of results may worsen.

Many supporters fear Leeds could end up with eight defeats from nine games in this brutal stretch, placing Farke’s job under intense scrutiny.

Former striker Chris Sutton, however, expressed surprise at the level of hostility aimed at Farke after attending the loss to Aston Villa.

Sutton, who has spoken positively about Farke previously and shares Norwich City connections with him, had praised the Leeds manager following their win over West Ham. So when a fan suggested to Sutton that Farke should be sacked, he dismissed the idea outright.

Speaking on the Monday Night Club, Sutton said he expected a harsher reaction from the supporters.

“I thought, overall, the atmosphere was okay. With all the negativity surrounding Daniel Farke at the start of the season, I expected more dissent from Leeds fans. They actually played really well.
You could feel the nerves after Villa equalised.

I always thought Leeds would be in a relegation fight. They’ve been competitive, but this is their worst spell. If I were a Leeds fan, I wouldn’t be in full panic.”

However, Sutton may not have heard the full response from the stands. Reports claim sections of the Elland Road crowd — most notably the West Stand — were openly critical of Farke.

Many supporters repeatedly shouted “make a sub” before he eventually made changes in the 68th minute. After the final whistle, chants of “you don’t know what you’re doing” were directed at the German coach.

Despite remaining sympathy for Farke due to his promotion success and a squad lacking the attacking options he wanted, his in-game decisions are testing the patience of fans.

How the 49ers respond will be telling. A defeat to Manchester City is expected, but if it turns into a heavy loss, the calls for change may grow even louder.
