Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has highlighted Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim and Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner in his latest Premier League prediction.
United travel to Selhurst Park for their final league match of November, facing a difficult test against a Palace side in strong form. The Red Devils head into the clash still reeling from a surprising defeat to 10-man Everton at Old Trafford on Monday.
United looked lifeless throughout the contest, with Everton pulling off an upset despite losing Idrissa Gueye to an early red card. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall netted the decisive goal for David Moyes’ side, leaving Amorim’s men scrambling for a response.
Merson’s verdict on Glasner and Amorim
Before the defeat to Everton, Manchester United had gone five Premier League games unbeaten. But speaking in his Sportskeeda column, Merson didn’t hold back in his criticism of United’s display.
“Manchester United were shocking last week,” he said.
“Everton went down to 10 men and still scored to win that game at Old Trafford. That was a really poor performance from Ruben Amorim’s team.”
United are 10th in the Premier League after the loss, while Crystal Palace sit 5th — two points ahead of the Red Devils.
Merson acknowledged similarities between Amorim and Glasner, but claimed the Palace boss is more adaptable.
“If United are looking for a new manager, then they must be keeping an eye on Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner,” he continued.
“He plays the same system as Amorim. The only difference is that while Glasner has the players to deploy that system, Amorim doesn’t and is being too stubborn about not playing any other way!”
Merson’s prediction: Crystal Palace vs Man United
The former Arsenal midfielder argued that Amorim’s tactics still haven’t clicked at United and says the team hasn’t fully adjusted to the demands of his system.
“When United went and got Amorim, they brought him in for the way his Sporting team played,” Merson explained.
“He has been there for a year now and you would think they have had enough time to adapt.But unfortunately, Manchester United are far from being consistent. I think they will lose again.”
Merson believes Palace will collect all three points on Sunday, predicting a 2–1 victory for Glasner’s side.
