Brighton boss Hurzeler explains his line-up change at Forest
Maxim De Cuyper earned a starting spot for Albion at Nottingham Forest and made an immediate impact by scoring.
The Belgian international was deployed ahead of Ferdi Kadioglu, while Diego Gomez shifted into a more central position.
Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler explained his choices: “It was primarily a decision between Ferdi and Maxim on the left, and we also wanted Diego on the pitch. We positioned Diego as a number eight.
As I mentioned after our last game, it’s all about competition—everyone fighting for their place and competing, while always adhering to our principles and team unity.
“With more players returning, our options are expanding, which naturally increases competition.
That means making careful decisions regarding both the starting XI and the substitutes. I hope this continues, because it keeps training intensity and energy high.”
Hurzeler admitted last season’s 7-0 loss at Forest forced him to rethink his gameplan, but he has no intention of dwelling on past results this time.
He added with a laugh: “I don’t have time to dwell—Wednesday brings our next challenge at home against Aston Villa.”
