The72’s team of writers have shared their predictions ahead of Tuesday night’s Championship meeting between Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town. The two sides will replay their abandoned Ewood Park fixture.
Blackburn Rovers were left incensed when their clash with Ipswich Town in September was halted. Valerien Ismael’s side held a 1–0 lead and had a numerical advantage in the 80th minute when the match was called off.
After an appeal, the game was rescheduled and must now be played from the beginning.
It would have been Rovers’ first home victory of the season, and since then, they have only secured one win at Ewood Park. Their disappointing home record continues to hold them back despite collecting 16 points from nine away matches.
In their most recent outing, the Lancashire club drew 1–1 against Wrexham. They currently sit 18th in the standings and can rise only one position with a win in this replay.
Ipswich Town, meanwhile, travel to face Blackburn with a point to prove following their lacklustre display in the abandoned encounter. They are also eager to bounce back from a disappointing 2–1 defeat at Oxford United on Friday, where Leif Davis netted their sole goal.
That loss ended a six-match unbeaten run for Kieran McKenna’s squad, leaving them in 7th place. Results elsewhere mean a victory could lift them to 4th.

“Blackburn Rovers absolutely must find a way to perform at home if they hope to salvage anything from this season. Leaning so heavily on away form simply won’t work, especially during a packed festive period with a stretched squad.
“Ipswich need to react to their Oxford display—it was flat and uninspired, much like their showing during the abandoned game at Ewood Park.
McKenna’s team have been much stronger recently, so they need to show that once again. Yes, Blackburn’s home form is poor, but they still have the quality to punish mistakes.
“Even so, I have more confidence in Ipswich finding a result than I do in Rovers reversing their home struggles.”

“Neither side has truly impressed me so far this season. Despite their talent, Ipswich are only seven points ahead of an otherwise ordinary Blackburn team.
“Blackburn are dreadful at Ewood Park and Ipswich struggle away, so I don’t expect a thriller. But if Ipswich want to push for promotion, victories in difficult fixtures like this are essential.
“I think they edge it 1–0.”
