Ipswich Town endured a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Oxford United on Friday night, ending their six-game unbeaten run in the Championship.

Despite the setback at The Kassam Stadium, there was a small piece of positive news for manager Kieran McKenna the following day.

Oxford, who have been struggling this season, secured the win thanks to goals from Mark Harris and Przemyslaw Placheta.

The result boosted their fight against relegation while putting a dent in Ipswich’s recent surge toward the play-off spots, following a mixed start to the campaign.

Next weekend presents a significant challenge for Ipswich as they host runaway Championship leaders Coventry City at Portman Road.

Coventry continued their stellar season with a 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic at the CBS Arena, highlighted by a brace from Ellis Simms.

However, Coventry will be without key striker Brandon Thomas-Asante, who missed the Charlton match.

The Coventry Evening Telegraph reports that Thomas-Asante will be sidelined until the new year with a torn hamstring. Manager Frank Lampard confirmed, “Brandon’s got a hamstring injury and he’ll be out for six weeks or so.”

The forward, who shares the top scorer spot in the Championship with Derby County’s Carlton Morris, has been a vital part of Coventry’s success.

There is some encouraging news for Coventry fans, though, as Lampard suggested that USA international Haji Wright could return for their clash against Ipswich next weekend.

For Kieran McKenna and Ipswich, Thomas-Asante’s absence is undoubtedly a boost.

The striker has been a revelation this season, scoring 10 goals and providing 3 assists in 17 league appearances—helping Lampard’s side establish a ten-point lead at the top of the Championship and tallying 50 goals in 18 matches.

Still, McKenna cannot be complacent. Coventry’s attacking threat remains strong, and Ipswich’s upcoming fixture will be their toughest of the season so far.
