Alex Neil is hoping Millwall’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Southampton will spark some momentum as the team prepares for a busy December schedule.
The match looked set to end level at 2-2 after Finn Azaz pulled a goal back for Southampton in the 87th minute.
But Millwall kept pushing, and in stoppage time Tristan Crama volleyed home Thierno Ballo’s chipped cross at the far post, scoring almost with the final kick of the game.
The Den exploded with celebration, and Neil sprinted down the touchline to join his players as they rejoiced.
“It’s the best way to win a game,” Neil said afterward. “When we conceded that late equaliser against Oxford, it affected us for a couple of matches.
Hopefully today can be the springboard for us to build on and pick up more points.”
Neil went on to explain why he values dramatic wins so highly.
“It’s the feeling you’re left with afterward,” he said. “I think back to the Oxford match — it felt like a defeat even though it ended in a draw.
“When you win in the way we did today, it gives the players a massive boost. It’s incredible for the supporters.
They’ll get excited, start thinking we’re going to win the league by ten points — that’s just football. That’s why we love it.
“We go to matches to be entertained and experience moments like that — games that end in unforgettable fashion.”
