Sky Sports: Leeds Make Daniel Farke Sack Decision Ahead of Chelsea

Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett claims that Leeds United’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Wednesday night could be a defining moment for the future of manager Daniel Farke.

The German boss is facing mounting pressure after a poor run of form that has seen Leeds lose six of their last seven league matches, most recently falling 3–2 to Manchester City at the weekend.

Farke’s side now faces two major tests: Chelsea away and then Liverpool at home. The next two results could determine whether he keeps his position at Elland Road.

Leeds Hierarchy ‘Concerned’ by Recent Form

Dorsett wrote on X that the club’s leadership is alarmed by the current slide, with four consecutive defeats creating growing anxiety. A fifth loss could trigger “serious” talks about Farke’s future, as Leeds aim to avoid an immediate return to the Championship—something no promoted side has suffered since the 2022/23 season.

The only positive for Leeds’ board was the spirited second-half performance against Manchester City following Farke’s tactical adjustments, which helped them keep the scoreline close.

They will need a similar level of fight against third-place Chelsea, who are competing with Manchester City and Arsenal for top-two contention.

Leeds’ Preferred Replacement

Reports suggest the club’s ownership group, the 49ers, has identified former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Gary O’Neil as their top choice if they decide to part ways with Farke.

However, O’Neil is just one of several unemployed coaches being considered. Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou have also been mentioned as potential candidates, signalling that Leeds would prioritise managers with Premier League experience to help secure survival.

Another name reportedly linked is Zsolt Lőw, the former RB Leipzig interim manager.

A Clear Favourite for the Job

Given the upcoming fixtures, it is difficult to see Farke lasting beyond the next week if results don’t improve. While O’Neil, Postecoglou, and Lőw are interesting options, Brendan Rodgers appears to be the standout candidate.

Rodgers has a proven track record of success at Leicester City and Celtic, and famously came close to winning the Premier League with Liverpool. His time in Scotland ended on a sour note, but he remains an experienced Premier League operator who has shown he can deliver trophies, including Leicester’s FA Cup triumph.

If Rodgers is willing to take the role and the club’s owners can meet his financial expectations, bringing him in could significantly boost Leeds’ chances of staying in the top flight.
