adminOliver Glasner said Crystal Palace will take an honest look at their performance and look to bounce back on Tuesday after suffering a 4-1 defeat away to Leeds United on Saturday night.
Crystal Palace suffered their first away defeat in the Premier League since October, undone by two Dominic Calvert-Lewin goals for Leeds, both stemming from long throw-ins.
Justin Devenny converted a late penalty to pull one back for the visitors, but any hope of a comeback was extinguished when Anton Stach curled in a free-kick in stoppage time to round off the scoring.
After the match, Oliver Glasner admitted his side fell short in the fundamentals on a difficult evening at Elland Road, though he stressed his continued faith in the squad to respond positively.
“We weren’t sharp enough,” Glasner said in his post-match press conference. “If you defend set-pieces the way we did today, you have no chance of taking points in the Premier League.
“That’s ultimately why we lost and conceded the goals we did. You have to win your duels. At the end, Christantus Uche did that and suddenly we had a penalty.
“Football can be very simple at times, and in the basics we weren’t good enough.”
When questioned about potential January reinforcements, Glasner was quick to shift the focus to Palace’s upcoming Carabao Cup trip to Arsenal.
“I don’t want to talk about January because in three days we’re playing at the Emirates,” he said. “This is the group we have available, and I trust them. They’ve shown their quality many times, just not today.
“Tomorrow we’ll look in the mirror. We’ll be very honest with ourselves, as we always are, and there’s a lot to discuss.
“Then, in three days, we have the chance to show we can do better — especially from set-pieces — against perhaps the best set-piece team around. That’s the challenge for us.”
