Richard Keys has jokingly suggested Everton could face another points deduction following comments made by Sean Dyche about Manchester City.
Financial regulations such as PSR and FFP continue to dominate discussion in the Premier League, particularly after Everton were previously penalised for breaching spending limits.
While the current season has been more competitive on the pitch, debate still rages over financial inequality and how rules are enforced across the division.
Many believe the league’s elite clubs receive more lenient treatment, not only financially but in other areas too. That belief has only been strengthened by the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Manchester City’s case.
Everton were swiftly punished for what was widely viewed as a relatively minor breach, yet City are still awaiting the outcome of charges brought against them back in 2023 for alleged financial rule violations spanning nine years, from 2009 to 2018.
City have denied all wrongdoing, but the prolonged delay has raised questions about transparency and consistency within the game.
Those concerns were echoed by Sean Dyche following Nottingham Forest’s defeat to Pep Guardiola’s side, particularly after Ruben Dias avoided a red card during the match.
Richard Keys supported Dyche’s view, suggesting City often benefit from favourable decisions. Writing on X, he said:
“I agree with Sean Dyche — Guardiola’s teams have always mastered the dark arts. Dias should’ve gone.
He knew exactly what he was doing. Referees are scared.
Oh — and has anyone heard about the 135 charges? No? Everton are probably waiting for another points deduction.”
As things stand, Manchester City are still awaiting a verdict more than two years after the charges were first announced. Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has stated that the matter is in the hands of independent panels and requires patience.
However, with other clubs already punished for similar breaches, many remain puzzled as to why City’s case continues to drag on without resolution.
