Ivan Toney update emerges as David Moyes eyes January move for new striker at Everton

Everton have been linked with a potential move for former Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who is currently playing for Saudi side Al-Ahli.

David Moyes is keen to strengthen his attacking options in January after Beto failed to impress following his move to Merseyside, while Thierno Barry is still adjusting to the demands of the Premier League.

There is also a possibility that Beto could depart during the winter window, making the need for a new striker even more urgent.

Update on Ivan Toney’s future

According to i News, Toney is open to a return to the Premier League as he looks to force his way back into England’s plans ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The striker earned his England call-ups during his time at Brentford but has since fallen out of favour under Thomas Tuchel.

Everton are believed to be an appealing option for Toney, with Moyes’ tactical approach seen as a good fit for the 29-year-old’s style of play. However, sources have downplayed the likelihood of a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium happening in the near future.

Everton set for January activity

While a deal for Toney appears unlikely, Everton are still expected to be active in the January transfer window.

Sitting 12th in the table, Moyes will be aiming for a top-half finish and possibly even a push for a Conference League place, depending on the reinforcements brought in.

Everton insider Alan Myers has suggested that the club’s owners are prepared to support Moyes with new signings, despite Angus Kinnear playing down expectations earlier in the window.

Myers believes the Toffees could look to add a striker, a full-back and a midfielder before the window closes. Links to attacking players remain strongest, though Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo has also been mentioned as a potential target.

Additionally, should Adam Aznou depart for Ajax, Everton may enter the market for a replacement — potentially on a loan deal.
