What Nuno said after ex-Wolves chief beaten at Molineux – as he praises quality in Rob Edwards’ squad

Former Wolves manager Nuno Espírito Santo admitted his West Ham side delivered an “embarrassing” performance after suffering a 3-0 defeat at Molineux, while also paying tribute to the quality within Rob Edwards’ Wolves squad.

West Ham became the first team to lose to Wolves in the Premier League this season as the hosts ended their winless run thanks to first-half goals from Jhon Arias, Hwang Hee-chan and Matheus Mané.

In reality, Wolves cruised to victory against their former boss, with the Molineux crowd enjoying every moment.

Throughout the match, chants of “Nuno had a dream” echoed around the stadium, as the home supporters revelled in the performance, while Nuno cut a visibly frustrated figure on the touchline.

The Portuguese coach has now won just two of his 15 matches in charge of West Ham, with speculation over his future continuing to intensify.

Speaking after the heavy defeat, Nuno did not hold back in his assessment of his team, apologising to the travelling supporters and describing the display as his worst since taking charge.

“It is embarrassing, and we have to apologise to the fans,” he said. “Today was the worst performance we have had.

“It is not about my future. It is about how we can get out of this situation, improve, and find the results that allow us to climb the table.

“Now is the time to reflect, talk among ourselves and see if we are strong enough to fix this.

“We needed more — much more — from our players. I’m sad to say it, but what I saw today was not good enough.”

Despite the disappointment, Nuno was quick to acknowledge Wolves’ quality, adding: “They have a squad full of talented players who, on their day, can play very good football.”
