Crystal Palace have decided against sacking Oliver Glasner following his outspoken comments after Saturday’s defeat to Sunderland.
The situation is being closely monitored by Manchester United and Tottenham, with United assessing long-term options beyond Ruben Amorim and Spurs continuing to review Thomas Frank’s future.
Glasner has come under immediate pressure at Selhurst Park after a public outburst in which he claimed he and his players felt “abandoned” following the club’s decision to accept a £20 million bid from Manchester City for Marc Guehi on Friday.
Sky Sports reported that Palace chairman Steve Parish was left “fuming” by the remarks and considered dismissing the 51-year-old, who has been linked with permanent managerial roles at both United and Spurs.
However, Palace are understood to prefer keeping Glasner in place until his contract expires at the end of the season.
The Austrian had already revealed in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Sunderland game that he had informed Parish and the board of his intention to leave in the summer. “My decision was made months ago,” Glasner explained.
“During the October international break, I had a long discussion with Steve Parish and told him I wouldn’t be signing a new contract. I also told the players today because clarity is important. I don’t want uncertainty affecting them.
“We’ve had a very busy schedule, which is why we didn’t announce it earlier. Steve and I both want what’s best for Crystal Palace.”
Glasner then led Palace to Sunderland, where they took an early lead through Yeremy Pino but eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat, extending their winless run to 10 matches.
After the game, Glasner appeared to aim criticism at the club’s hierarchy. “The players gave everything,” he said. “We didn’t make substitutions—look at the bench, it’s full of kids.
We feel completely abandoned. Selling our captain the day before a game is impossible to understand.
“We were preparing for the match and then on Friday I was told our captain was being sold. Why not next week? He could have played this game, and then other players would be returning. It really upset me.”
He added: “When your heart gets ripped out twice in a year—Eberechi Eze the day before a game in the summer and now our captain—it’s hard to accept. In 30 years in football, I’ve never experienced this. We’ve been operating with just 12 or 13 players for weeks, and some have already played 35 games.”
Glasner remains a candidate for the managerial role at Manchester United, where Michael Carrick is currently in charge on an interim basis until the end of the season.
Carrick enjoyed a strong start to his caretaker spell, overseeing a memorable 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday.
The Palace boss would also be open to taking over at Tottenham should the north London club decide to move on from Frank.
