Marc Guéhi — South London born, South London raised, and forever proud of his roots — has delivered an emotional farewell to Crystal Palace after speaking to Palace TV, addressing players, staff and supporters as his time at the club comes to an end.
Outstanding both on and off the pitch, Guéhi leaves Selhurst Park not only as a key figure in recent successes, but as a true ambassador for the club and a player who embodied its values throughout his spell in red and blue.
In his farewell message, Guéhi reflected on his journey with immense gratitude, describing his overwhelming emotion as thankfulness for the opportunity to represent the club.
He spoke of how honoured he felt to pull on the Palace shirt, acknowledging the many great players who had come before him and left their mark. For Guéhi, simply being able to play in front of Palace’s supporters was a privilege that made his journey unforgettable.
As a South London native representing a South London club, Guéhi explained that he deeply understood what Crystal Palace means to its supporters.
He described the club as central to fans’ lives — their joy, their pain, their passion and their identity — and said every possible emotion is tied to the Football Club.
Wearing the captain’s armband was another moment he described as a huge blessing. Taking on such responsibility at a young age was daunting, but the unwavering backing of the supporters gave him confidence.
Guéhi highlighted how the culture of Crystal Palace is shaped by its fans and the wider South London community, a shared understanding that every teammate and coach he worked with embraced.
He went on to express his gratitude to the many players he shared the pitch and dressing room with, saying every interaction helped shape him both as a footballer and as a person.
Those experiences, he said, allowed him to grow, improve and mature, and he credited his teammates for playing such a significant role in his development.
Guéhi also paid special tribute to the coaches who guided him along the way, thanking them for helping him improve every day and for playing a vital role in his journey. He spoke of his faith, believing those people were placed in his life to help him reach where he is today.
Reflecting on daily life at the club, Guéhi said he arrived at work with a smile because of the quality of people at Crystal Palace. He described the club as a reflection of South London itself — built on good people who genuinely care about the club and want the best for everyone involved.
His appreciation extended to every member of staff, noting that while he could not name everyone individually, he was thankful for every encounter, shared memory and act of support. Each person, he said, played a role in shaping his Palace experience.
One moment that particularly stood out to him was his first game for the club against Chelsea in August 2021, a 3–0 defeat.
Despite the result, Guéhi recalled how Palace supporters sang relentlessly from start to finish, refusing to stop backing the team regardless of the scoreline.
That memory, he said, perfectly summed up what the club and its fanbase represent, and it will stay with him forever.
When reflecting on silverware, Guéhi pointed to winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield, but insisted the FA Cup triumph was not a personal achievement.
Instead, he viewed it as a reward for the supporters — fans who travel home and away, through all conditions and circumstances, always backing the team. Being part of delivering that moment to them was something he described as a huge source of pride.
Struggling to put his emotions into words, Guéhi said the term “family” best captured his relationship with the club and its supporters.
He spoke of unity through both difficult relegation battles and unforgettable highs, noting that regardless of results or seasons, Palace fans were always there — not just supporting players, but supporting people.
He closed by offering a heartfelt thank you, saying words alone could never fully express his appreciation. Representing Crystal Palace, captaining the club, playing in the Premier League and fulfilling a childhood dream were opportunities he will always cherish.
For Guéhi, Crystal Palace will forever be part of who he is — a club that allowed a South London kid to grow, dream and achieve.
