English Manager ‘Strong Contender’ to Replace Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace

Frank Lampard has been identified as a leading candidate to succeed Oliver Glasner as Crystal Palace manager, according to talkSPORT.

The former Chelsea and England midfielder has boosted his reputation with an impressive campaign at Coventry City, who currently hold a six-point lead at the top of the Championship.

Palace chairman Steve Parish is understood to be a long-time admirer of Lampard and is expected to include him high on the club’s shortlist as plans are made for a managerial change in South London.

Palace are also believed to be weighing up alternative options, with Getafe head coach José Bordalás and Rayo Vallecano boss Íñigo Pérez both under consideration as possible replacements for Glasner.

However, it remains uncertain whether Lampard would be prepared to leave Coventry, particularly if he guides the Sky Blues to promotion this season.

The 47-year-old is contracted to the Championship leaders until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, having signed a two-and-a-half-year deal when he took charge in November 2024.

Lampard brings significant Premier League experience, having previously managed Chelsea and Everton, as well as returning to Stamford Bridge for a brief interim spell during the 2022/23 season.

He joined Coventry last term when they were languishing in 17th place and successfully led them into the play-offs, finishing fifth.

This season, Coventry have been beaten just four times in 27 league matches under Lampard, although recent form has dipped slightly, with only two wins from their last six outings. Promotion would mark the club’s first return to the Premier League since 2001.

Meanwhile, Glasner has avoided an immediate dismissal despite recent turmoil at Selhurst Park.

talkSPORT report that Parish and sporting director Matt Hobbs have been preparing a succession plan since October, when Glasner informed the club of his intention to leave at the end of his contract.

The Austrian made his decision public last Friday before launching a stinging post-match criticism following Palace’s 2-1 defeat to Sunderland, accusing the club of “completely abandoning” the squad after captain Marc Guéhi was sold to Manchester City.

Although his comments sparked speculation over his future, Palace have denied making any snap decisions and reportedly informed Glasner on Sunday that he will remain in charge until his deal expires in June.

The Eagles are currently on a 10-match winless run across all competitions and sit 13th in the Premier League ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Chelsea.
