DONE DEAL; Ipswich Town finally signed attacker from Bristol City for deal worth….

Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Bristol City forward Anis Mehmeti, securing the attacker for an initial fee of £3 million.

The 25-year-old successfully completed his medical earlier today after the two Championship clubs reached an agreement, with the deal making Mehmeti Ipswich’s first addition of the January transfer window. He will take up the number 33 shirt at Portman Road as he begins the next chapter of his career.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Mehmeti expressed his delight at the move and outlined his determination to play a key role in the club’s push for success.

“I’m really excited to have signed for the club,” he said. “The direction the club is heading in matches my own ambitions perfectly, and that says everything. The supporters are incredible and I can’t wait to get out there and play in front of them.

“I’m a very hungry player with a real desire to win. I want to score goals, create chances and contribute in any way I can to help the team.

“Everyone knows the target is to get back to the Premier League, and I’m here to do my part to help make that happen.”

Born in Islington, Mehmeti came through a number of respected academies in his youth, spending time with Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City before beginning his senior career with Essex non-league side Woodford Town.

His performances earned him a move to Wycombe Wanderers in 2020, where he continued to develop before stepping up to Championship level with Bristol City three years later. During his time with the Robins, Mehmeti established himself as a reliable and versatile attacking option, operating mainly from the left but capable of playing across the front line.

Across all competitions, he scored 26 goals in 134 appearances for Bristol City over three and a half seasons. This campaign has been one of his most productive yet, with eight goals and six assists in 28 Championship matches.

Mehmeti was recently involved against his new club, playing the full 90 minutes for Gerhard Struber’s side in their 2-0 defeat to Ipswich on Tuesday night.

Interest in the Albania international, who has earned three senior caps, had been building for some time. Struber admitted that attention from other clubs was expected, with reports also suggesting that Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers were monitoring the situation. Mehmeti’s contract at Ashton Gate was set to run until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Although Bristol City are understood to have offered him a new deal, with discussions taking place as recently as last week, the player made it clear he wanted a new challenge once Ipswich’s interest emerged.

All new signings must be registered by midday on Friday to be eligible for EFL matches over the weekend. Whether Mehmeti will be cleared in time to feature against Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm, remains to be seen.
