It’s on – Danny Rohl talks up title bid after Rangers secure ‘statement’ win

Rangers manager Danny Rohl described feeling “great” after his side’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Dundee, a result that cut the gap on William Hill Premiership leaders Hearts to just four points.

The win saw home captain James Tavernier open the scoring from the penalty spot early in the second half, before substitutes Danilo and Djeidi Gassama added late goals during stoppage time, securing Rangers’ eighth consecutive win across all competitions. Meanwhile, Hearts’ 2-2 draw with Celtic at Tynecastle allowed Rangers to leapfrog their Old Firm rivals and move just behind the Jambos in a tightening title race.

Reflecting on the victory, Rohl said:

“Yeah, it feels great, but hopefully that feeling will grow as the season progresses because there’s still a long way to go. At Rangers, the demand to win consistently is high, but eight wins in a row is a statement, especially given where we were before.

“We knew this wouldn’t be an easy game. Everyone expected us to win, but Dundee came in on a small run and were well-organised. In the first half, we sometimes had too many players behind the ball rather than in the right positions. That was our focus at half-time.

“The second half was fantastic — we scored, created chances, and eventually sealed the 3-0. Yes, we made a few mistakes on transitions, but overall, that result sends a message.”

Rohl praised his team’s attitude and continued drive, saying:

“The best part is seeing the squad’s hunger after a 3-0 win. They’re not complacent; they want to do more and be better. I try to lead by example — stay humble and push every day. With 15 games left, we want to be hunters on the pitch, pressing teams around us and staying on the front foot. That’s when football is really fun.”

On the other side, Dundee boss Steven Pressley admitted his disappointment with his team’s performance and hinted at additions before the transfer window closes. The former Rangers defender said:

“We probably need to bring in a couple of new faces. Injuries to key players like Clark Robertson, potentially out for six weeks, and Billy Koumetio, out for eight to twelve weeks, are a huge blow. We need to make sure we’re not short in these areas.”
